Sadly the heater fan finally died, leaving the van pretty cold in the snow. So, a quick trip to Brickwerks in Holmfirth was in order. This meant the long way round on the Motorway, which was jammed and none too pleasant, or a risky trip over the snow covered moors. I was told that all roads were clear from the Flouch Inn to Holmfirth so just needed to get from the Hope Valley to The Flouch over Strines Moor.

It was sucha  beautiful day I thought a photo diary of the trip would be a good plan:

Approaching the A57 and the Ashopton Viaduct - roads ok

On the A57 heading towards Strines - road good but the trees laden with snow and ice.

Turning off teh A57 onto the Strines Road and the conditions change to drifting snow across the road.

Looking out over Strines Moor and the direction I am heading.

Lots of snow, this taken after just passing a Landrover 110 stuck in a drift - he did not want a tow as there was a rescue tractor and trailer on the way from the estate to collect him.

Someone has been busy ploughing the road - just a bit icy

The rescue tractor for the 110 busy rescuing 2 x Range Rovers!

Back up onto the tops and more drifting snow.

Holmfirth's finest driver - car covered in 4" of snow with a small hole in the snow on the windscreen adn side windows to see through and about to "head on" the van coming towards him. Fortunately the van swerved.

An idiot driving a small car that had 4" of snow all over and just small holes to see through, luckily the van swerved to miss him!

The last walk of the holiday

It snowed and then froze overnight, not wanting to miss the chance for a last family walk before work and school resumed we piled into the ScoobyVelle and made our way through to Ladybower for a low level walk in the sun and under blue skies.

We support the local Owl and Otter Sanctuary and pop over regularly, but the pre Christmas visit has become a tradition over the past 10 years. Joe sponsors a Snowy Owl and Ben the Asian Short Clawed Otters. This year it was incredible because of the deep snow and incredibly low temperatures.:

This afternoon saw some feverish activity in the garage. The brace bars were ground round at the top to rest on the sides of the nudge bar. Then they were bolted to the van and tacked in place.

The bards were then removed and taken indoors out of the downpour. Once on the bench they were welded up.

Did not have a great deal of time to day, due to other pressing jobs (rewiring the kitchen lights and helping Ben with his homework) so just grabbed a couple of hours in the garage and managed to knock up the two brace bars for the nudge bar on the ScoobyVelle. My welding is getting a bit better each time, this is not too bad.
